NEW YORK | THE PAST LIFE SERIES
Welcome to this episode, where we plunge headfirst into the swirl of time, memory, and the uncanny connections that make us wonder: Who are we, really? Today, I’m peeling back the layers of one particular past life—a life set against the smoky, chaotic backdrop of Civil War-era New York. And here’s where it gets good: in that lifetime, my then-boyfriend (yes, in this life) wasn’t my romantic partner. Nope. He was my older brother. Let’s pause for that to sink in.
So there we were, in upstate New York, trudging through snowdrifts, living in a cabin near the woods, and navigating life with our fiery, oppositional personalities. He was the steady, grounded one, already a hunter by the time he joined the Union Army. Me? I was the stubborn, spunky little sister, always dragging him out into the snow to play or learn something new, much to his reluctant amusement.
But here’s the thing about this past life: it wasn’t just a historical drama playing out in sepia tones. It was a masterclass in lessons that refused to stay buried. As I unearthed these memories, I realized that the dynamics we shared then—a bond so strong it blurred the lines between familial duty and profound friendship—still echo in the present.
For example, he taught me about self-reliance. Back then, he made sure I knew how to survive in the wilderness, how to hunt, and how to navigate a world that didn’t think much of women being capable. Those lessons? They transcended time. In this life, I’ve carried that fierce independence with me, even when the world whispered, “Are you sure you’re up for this?”
And then there was the protective streak. In that past life, when my husband (yes, I got married; spoiler alert: bad choice) turned out to be a cheater, my brother didn’t just sit on the sidelines. He intervened in a way that left an indelible mark—one that involved a gun, a wounded leg, and, well, let’s just say my ex-husband never walked quite the same way again. Was it dramatic? Yes. But it was also a powerful message: I deserved better.
In this episode, I reflect on how that fierce love and loyalty manifested in this lifetime. Our connection, while no longer familial, still carried the essence of mutual care and deep understanding. But here’s the kicker: sometimes, the strongest bonds are the ones we have to let go of. Because, as much as I loved him (then and now), his presence in this life was a lesson in itself—teaching me to recognize when it’s time to prioritize my own journey.
So, join me as I weave through time and space, unpacking the ways our past lives shape our present. Together, we’ll explore what it means to carry those energies forward: the love, the lessons, and yes, even the heartbreak. It’s all part of the tapestry, and I promise, it’s worth unraveling.
